OK. So now that the boys are two they are learning how to be defiant. Very, very defiant. It is manifesting itself in the strangest ways. You would expect them to be fighting over toys, refusing to eat certain foods, and throwing fits at nap time. Well, in our house we get very little of that. Instead it's a constant fight not to bang toys against the wall, to leave the blinds alone, and to please, PLEASE LEAVE MOMMY'S GLASSES ALONE. Glasses are expensive and not something I can go without. Sadly, when I don't have my glasses I am pretty blind. If the dudes were to break them, well I would be pretty much screwed. I have been wearing the same pair of glasses since 2010! It is definitely past time for a new pair.
This past Spring I went to the eye doctor and got an updated prescription. After my appointment I spent about an hour trying on different glasses until I finally found a pair I really liked. I was so excited. The next part was to go over all the options for my lenses and put in my order. I had great insurance with $150 credit for glasses and frames. I went with the basic lenses and my frames were on the cheapest wall. Imagine my surprise when we were finishing up and they asked me to pay $85 ON TOP OF MY CREDIT!! There was no way I could pay that. I had to go home, without new glasses and without the ability to get a new pair. My insurance would only let me use my credit at their in-house glasses shop. There are places I could go and pay out if pocket, but if I could afford to do that I would just pay for the pair I already picked.
Let's fast forward a few months...
The fight with my twins over my glasses gets worse everyday. After work one day I fell asleep while we were playing. When I fell asleep my glasses were safe and sound on my face. When I woke up, they were gone. I searched and searched. After about ten minutes I found them... hidden in the boy's ball pit.
They don't even sit properly on my face. They crooked, noticibly crooked. Then one day, they had finally had enough. One of the arms snapped off. My husband had to use a paperclip to hold the arm in place! I will admit, that was very smart thinking on his part, but horribly embarrassing on mine. Would you want to walk around with scratched, crooked glasses held on by a paperclip!?!?! Well, I didn't really have any other options.... or did I?
That is when I came across GlassesShop.com. This site is awesome. They sell seriously affordable glasses frames. They have a huge selection of glasses in all the popular styles. They nice thing about getting glasses from here is that they are cheap! When you buy glasses in the big stores 90% of what you are paying for is the name. Strip away a big brand name and what you have is good quality glasses at a good price. Most of the frames are between $30 - $60 WITH LENSES INCLUDED!
I was a little skeptical at first. I tend to do believe that things like this are often too good to be true. I figured they would be cheap and flimsy. I am actually very impressed. They came with a plastic case, cloth to clean the lenses, and a discount card for another pair (which with my boys I should definitely get a back up pair). The frames are very sturdy. The lenses are a little on the cheaper side and get dirty easy, but I had the same problem with my other glasses to and those were high end glasses. If the lenses are a big concern, they do have extra coatings you can add. I still don't think I'm going to do that with my next pair because it's really not that big a deal to me.
The only big tip I have in regards to ordering online is to pay attention to the dimensions. I did not and the ones I picked are a little bigger on my face than I would usually pick. I was a little nervous at first but since I got them I have gotten a lot of compliments, more than my old pair.
All in all, I am very happy and I will most definitely be ordering another pair. I want to get a second pair in a different style so I can switch them up throughout the week. Plus with my baby dudes... I need a back up pair. Before next summer I also want to get a pair of prescription sunglasses! I have never had prescription sunglasses and it would make life much easier in the summer!!
If you are like me and you are in a constant fight with your kids over your glasses or your just in the mood for a new pair, you should head over to GlassesShop.com. If their glasses were not affordable enough, they were nice enough to give the Miracles Come In Pairs readers a coupon code! When you go to order make sure to put in the code GSHOT50 for 50% off on eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses (sale frames excluded)!
Now that's an awesome deal! Even if you are happy with your current frames, things happen and you never know when you will need another pair and trust me, you really don't want to walk around with a paperclip holding them together!
