Breastfeeding Tip: Make It Fun

If I have said it once I have said it a thousand times, I am a huge advocate of breastfeeding. I love it so much, not just because of the health benefits for both mom and baby, but for the bonding experience I get to have with each of my twins. Here is a secret that most moms don't want to say out loud... Breastfeeding can get boring... Especially in the beginning when your little angel is asleep and hanging on to the boob for 45 minutes at a time. There isn't much you can do about that, but you can make the most of all the other times you have.

Talk to your baby, sing to your baby,  heck you can even read to your baby! As your baby gets older and more engaged with the world around him (or her) you can use it for play time as well. My boys and I have so much fun when I breastfeed them. I talk to them in funny voices, tickle them, and of course I have to eat their little finger and toes.  I have glasses that they have been trying to get off my face since they were little. To get them to stop I started to pretend to eat their fingers. They thought this was so funny that now every time we nurse, if I don't try to get their fingers they start putting their fingers towards my mouth like they are reminding me.

We also take advantage of this time by teaching them as well. They learned the parts of the face while nursing. If I asked "Where is Mommy's nose" they will either point to it. We will then go o. To all the features of Mommy's face. There are a lot of things  you can teach your baby while he or she is nursing. The point is, this is a time where you have your babies full attention. You can decide how you use it. You can be distracted and on your phone or watching TV (which we are all guilty of) or you can be engaged with your baby and having fun. From experience I can tell you that it really does make your bond with your baby (or babies for all my twin moms) that much stronger.
